This is one of the most fundamental and comprehensive works on Russian medieval numismatics authored by the curator of the Russian State History museum, Alexei Vasilyevich Oreshnikov. The catalog features detailed descriptions of 1053 coins from earliest periods to the time of Ivan IV the Terrible. Coin images are referenced in 12 appendices. While some of the classifications made by Oreshnikov have been revised based on the most recent archeological data by present-day experts, this work is still considered one of the key catalogs on Russian medieval numismatics.
